Disney’s Aulani: A Hawaiian Vacation

Disney’s Aulani Gives you the Beauty of Hawaii with the Magic of Disney

Disney's Aulani - a Disney Resort and Spa

Disney’s Aulani is a Disney-owned resort, located in Hawaii. It provides the beauty and breathtaking scenery of Hawaii, without the immense crowds of popular hotspots around the islands. And this is what makes it the perfect place for families to visit Hawaii.

Opening in 2011, Disney’s Aulani spans 21 acres, containing about 359 hotel rooms and 460 villas. Most of the rooms overlook the island, pools, and ocean. The resort is located on the island of Oahu, the home of the Hawaiian capital of Honolulu. My all-time favorite Imagineer, Joe Rohde, who is also a Hawaii native, designed Aulani, to reflect the culture and spirit of the Hawaiian people. Disney even consulted with Hawaiian natives to ensure the culture was properly presented.

Disney’s Aulani Room Categories

Disney's Aulani - Deluxe Studio

Disney’s Aulani has every type of room imaginable, from Standard Hotel rooms to 3-Bedroom Villas. The type of room you stay in is entirely up to your budget and preferences, but if there is one thing every room MUST have: OCEAN VIEW.

PICTURE THIS: Hawaii. 2022. You wake up in the morning, make your morning coffee, step out onto the Lanai, and BAM! The Pacific Ocean is right there, staring at you, staring at it. No matter what type of room you choose, make sure you opt for the Oceanview Room!

Disney’s Aulani: Pools

There are 8 pool/water areas at Aulani, and 7 of them are included in your resort stay. Not included in your stay, is Rainbow Reef, which offers snorkeling. There is an additional charge. All other pools are included in your stay! The Waikolohe Pool is the largest pool, and you can easily spend an entire day just taking in all there is to see and do at this pool!

The Waikolohe Pool is 8,200 square feet with zero-depth entry. Waikolohe means “Mischievous Water” in Hawaiian. Your chances of hanging out with Mickey, Minnie, and Friends at this pool are pretty high! There are teen-only, tween-only, and all-ages pool parties that will be announced every day in the resort schedules.

Waikolohe stream
Disney's Aulani - Waikolohe Stream

The Waikolohe Stream offers a lazy river, 2 rapids experiences, and 2 waterslides, sure to provide something for everyone.

In the Lazy River, find your tube and let the gentle current carry you through the Waikolohe Valley. Designed with rock formations and natural details inspired by Oʻahu, the course features caverns and fountain springs that offer bursts of cooling refreshment.

From atop Pu‘u Kilo—a craggy peak overlooking Waikolohe Valley—take off on 2 awesome adventures! The Volcanic Vertical, an enclosed, extreme body slide that empties out into the pool. The Tubestone Curl, a open-air tube slide that twists and turns until it drops you into the Waikolohe Stream. Go solo or in pairs.

Ka Maka Grotto

At Ka Maka Landing, you will find this family-themed pool area. Ka Maka Grotto has an infinity pool overlooking Ko Olina Beach, a misty grotto, and an amazing nighttime experience featuring thousands of glittering lights!

You will also find a family whirlpool spa overlooking the beach and Keiki Cove Splash Zone, a water play area designed for guests 5 and under, though open to any age. Here, you will find images of aquatic creatures that decorate the pool floor, rainbow water jets, and more!

This 2,100 square foot water play area, for guests 48 inches and under, has 2 water slides, interactive water elements, play fixtures, and the Menehune—the legendary “little people” responsible for mysterious happenings on the islands.

adults-only pool areas

Adults can head to the Wailana Pool for some peace and quiet. There is also 4 whirlpool spas, and the Laniwai Spa, where, for a fee, guests can schedule a number of spa services.

Aulani – Dining

There is a vast array of dining opportunities at Aulani. For a “fancier” experience, there are two table-service restaurants and one high-end bar, serving lunch and bites, and 5 quick-service restaurants available. And you will NOT want to miss the Luau! The Luau is INCREDIBLY popular, so you’ll want to get your reservations as soon as possible!

Beach Activities

Disney's Aulani Beach Activities

The Beach at Aulani Resort features the breathtaking Ko Olina Lagoon. The stunning cove allows guests to swim, paddleboard, and snorkel.  Hotel guests can rent snorkel equipment and stand up paddleboards from Makiki Joe’s. Boogie boards, sand toys, and life jackets are complimentary for Aulani Resort Guests.

Disney’s Aulani is an amazing way to experience Hawaii as a family, or as adults that just can’t get enough of Mickey on their vacations! For more information, click here and then contact me to book YOUR Aulani Vacation!

Disneyland: Paradise Pier Hotel

Read Time:2 Minute, 51 Second

A Deep Dive into The Most Affordable Resort at Disneyland

Disneyland - Paradise Pier
Photo: Disney

Disneyland Resort has 3 hotels considered “on-property,” as opposed to Walt Disney World, which has over 25. That alone should tell you about the size difference between the two locations! Of the three on-site hotels, Paradise Pier is the most “affordable.” But that does not mean it is “cheap.” Quite the contrary! This is not a shabby hotel in any way, shape, or form!

Paradise Pier – a Vibe

Disneyland - Paradise Pier view

Paradise Pier is themed like the Boardwalks and beaches of California’s coasts, so if you’re at Disneyland and don’t want to face the infamous LA traffic, you’re pretty set! Both theme parks are just steps away from Paradise Pier, and you can even watch the fireworks and World of Color from some of the upper-level rooms! And did I mention the rooftop pool?

Paradise Pier – Room Types

Paradise Pier offers all kinds of rooms, including standard rooms, suites, and even club-level rooms!

In general, all standard rooms at the Paradise Pier Hotel come with the following amenities: mini-fridge, coffeemaker, iron & ironing board, satellite TV, hairdryer, in-room safe, alarm clock, phone with voicemail and high-speed Wi-Fi. A crib is also available upon request. The difference between a Standard Room and a Premium View room is, well, the view. In a Standard Room, you’re going to get views of the parking lot or Disneyland Drive, while in the Premium View Rooms, you’re getting views of the theme park. Only you can determine if the cost is worth it for your family, but for mine, it’s honestly negligible. Chances are, we’re going to be in the parks for fireworks anyway, so the bonus of watching them from our room? Meh.

If you’re looking for just a TOUCH more with your Disney experience, you might consider the Club-Level rooms. Club-level gets you access to the Beachcomber Club, where guests can enjoy a variety of light bites and drinks on and off all day long from 6:30 AM to 10 PM. This includes continental breakfast, snacks, wine, cheese and desserts. If your kids are in the mood for a Disney movie before bed, just borrow one from the concierge club’s DVD collection.

Or you might consider one of MANY suites offered, which can accommodate larger groups. No matter what kind of group you have, Paradise Pier has got you covered for sleeping arrangements!

Disneyland - Paradise Pier

Paradise Pier – Recreation

Paradise Pier has a fitness center that offers fitness classes, for those that need to stay in shape on vacation! It includes cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights.

Disneyland - Paradise Theater

Kids can go into the Paradise Theater, where they can rest and recharge while watching a movie on a sandcastle-shaped television!

Disneyland - California Streamin
Photo: Disney

You can’t have a beach-themed hotel without an amazing pool, and that is just what you’ll find at Paradise Pier. This rooftop pool has an amazing view of the nightly fireworks, with the soundtrack even pumped in for full enjoyment. Enjoy a ride down California Streamin’, a sunshine-yellow waterslide styled after the classic coasters of the boardwalk or oceanfront pier. Or take a soak in the Paradise Spa whirlpool, while the kids swim in the main pool or the children’s pool.

For more information about Paradise Pier, see this link.

Walt Disney World Resorts: The Contemporary

0 0
Read Time:5 Minute, 4 Second

Take a Closer Look at One of Walt Disney World’s ORIGINAL Resorts!

Let’s talk resorts, specifically, The Contemporary. If you’ve been to Walt Disney World and visited the Magic Kingdom, you have seen The Contemporary. It is literally the closest to the Magic Kingdom, just a 5-10 minute walk, depending on where your room is located. To many people, a stay at this resort is a pipe dream or a bucket list item. The ultimate dream is to wake up and walk on your balcony, only to be able to see INTO the Magic Kingdom! So let’s take a deeper look!

Walt Disney World - The Contemporary
The Contemporary

Room Categories

Over in the Main Tower, there are about 500 guest rooms. Half of them face the Magic Kingdom and, yes, you can see the Magic Kingdom directly from your balcony! Some of them even look into the park! As I said, staying at the Contemporary is a bucket list items for many fans and guests that visit Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World
Contemporary Theme Park View Room

Obviously, Bay Lake Tower, which is a DVC property, is going to cost the most. It is also the closest hotel. Did you know you can stay in DVC rooms without being DVC members? As long as members haven’t booked the rooms and you’re willing to pay for it, I can book these rooms for you. We LOVE them for the washer and dryer alone!

Now back to the main tower, it is worth noting that some of these theme park view rooms also have views of the parking lot, the Magic Kingdom bus loops, and the roof of the convention center. These rooms are also pretty pricy and can get up to $1,000 per night, depending on the time of year. Like all rooms at The Contemporary, they sleep up to 5, with a pull-down daybed. They are incredibly nice rooms, and they were recently renovated with Incredibles themes. They look AWESOME and we cannot wait to stay here this summer!

A Theme Park View room for 5 nights, 6 days, with a 5-day park hopper and Memory Maker, for a family of 4 (2 kids under 9), will run you about $7,500. It’s not terrible, but the backside, with views of Bay Lake, is equally nice and pretty peaceful and quiet. They’re also cheaper and the same package for the same family would run about $1,000 cheaper, just for staying on the other side of the tower.

The Contemporary – Garden Wing

Walt Disney World has over 25 hotels, and the Contemporary is almost like 3 hotels in one! Bay Lake Tower, again, a DVC Property, the Main Tower, and there is also the Garden Wing option. The Garden Wing is also significantly cheaper. These rooms are detached from the main tower, right on Bay Lake and closer to the pool and the docks to catch a boat. It’s a slightly longer walk to the monorail, bus stops, and Magic Kingdom, but we’re talking like 10 minutes instead of 5. And, again, the serenity of lakefront accommodations can be pretty relaxing, as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the main tower.

Walt Disney World - Contemporary Garden Wing
Garden Wing 1 Bedroom Suite
Garden Wing Standard Room

The Garden Wing has both suites and standard rooms, with the biggest difference (other than price) being space. They offer the same amenities, sleep 5 guests (or 8 guests for the hospitality suite), but the suites are about double the size. The suites for the same family of 4 with a 5-day park hopper and Memory Maker will cost about $11,000 BUT the standard view Garden Wing room, with all the same options for this family of 4, is about $5,800. So plainly you can see, if you want the most affordable way to stay in the Contemporary, choose a Garden Wing room!

The Contemporary – Pools & Recreation

But what else does But what else does the Contemporary have to offer? Let’s start with pools! Florida is hot and what better way to cool off than to jump in the pool? The main pool has a 17-foot high swirling water slide. You can also rent a private poolside cabana!

If you hop over to the Bay Lake pool which is closer to the lake, you have a more quiet pool option, plus a water play area for the littlest guests. Bay Lake Tower has its own pool and waterslide as well. The main pool area has a hot tub and a poolside bar, for the adults to unwind and relax while the kiddies have a blast!

You can also play basketball, tennis, do lakeside yoga, rent boats, go fishing, and more. The Contemporary has many recreational options to take part in, so there’s sure to be something for everyone!

The Contemporary – Dining

Let’s talk FOOD! The Contemporary has a ton of great dining options. There are three full-service table service restaurants available. Chef Mickey’s, currently available for breakfast and dinner, is a family-style character meal, and one of the most popular character meals Disney has to offer. The California Grill, a fine dining restaurant that is incredibly popular, for both its food and it’s incredible views of the Magic Kingdom. It is located on the TOP FLOOR of the Resort, so it is incredibly popular to time dining reservations here with Magic Kingdom fireworks! And there is the all-new, FABULOUS, AMAZING, Steakhouse 71!!!

There are three quick service options, though two of them are poolside. The Contempo Cafe, located next to Chef Mickey’s, is one of the most popular quick service options on property. The Contemporary also has its own coffee bar in the lobby, offering unique options. You can also visit one of the lounges available. There are many food and drink options here, making this a great choice for families full of many different palettes.

Disney Adults: Guys’ Trips

Disney Adults: How to Plan the BEST Guys Trip

Disney is for everybody. People seem to think it’s just for women and children. And this isn’t true, because Disney is for everybody. Can Guys go to Disney and have a great time without women or children? OF COURSE THEY CAN! Hopefully, there is at least one thing on this list that you did not know you can do at Walt Disney World, and you plan it into your next Guys’ Trip! Let me know if there’s anything I missed!

1. Camping

Whether you tent-camp, rent an RV, bring a pop-up camper, or reserve a cabin, Fort Wilderness Campgrounds provides tons of camping greatness. You could spend the entire week at the Campgrounds and never once even go to the parks. While at the Campgrounds, take a Segway tour, go horseback riding, rent a boat and go fishing, take archery lessons, and more!

2. Golf

Walt Disney World has 3 golf courses (18-hole par 72), 2 miniature golf courses, and 1 FootGolf course. What more could a group of guys ask for? The 3 golf courses are managed by Arnold Palmer Management Group, and the Magnolia Course is where Tiger Woods actually played for a Masters Championship. Oak Trail is a 9-hole walking course and also has a FootGolf course, which is basically soccer. The Palm Course is a championship course and is frequently used for such. All the courses have driving ranges and putting greens, so if you just want to have short golf excursions, that could be your game plan! Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland are the two mini-golf courses for less adventurous golfers.

Hit the links, like Goofy!

3. Bar Crawls

Whether you go the traditional, Monorail Bar Crawl route, or the newer Skyliner Bar Crawl route, there are many options available! You can read more in-depth about Disney’s Bar Crawls here!

4. Drink Around the World

In addition to Bar Crawls, there is always the good ‘ol Drink Around the World. Start in Mexico with a Margarita or Mexican craft beer, or start in Canada with a Canadian Lager. The choice is yours! No matter what, stop at Rose and Crown and the Biergarten! For tips on which drinks to try, check out The Best EPCOT Drinks!

5. Star Wars Day

Spend the day in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon Smuggler’s Run, Oga’s Cantina, Ronto Wrap, Milk Stand, there are ENDLESS details to look at in Galaxy’s Edge. If that’s not enough for you, you’re in luck, because Andy’s Backyard is right next door. You can also hop up to ride Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. Finish your night at Baseline Tap House for beers and pub-grub!

For the ULTIMATE Guys Trip Star Wars Experience, consider a trip on the Galactic Starcruiser!!!

Everything Disney’s Polynesian Resort Has to Offer

Today, let’s take a look at one of the two original Walt Disney World Resort hotels: Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Themed after the South Pacific, the Poly is located right across the lagoon from the Magic Kingdom. It is accessible via monorail, boat, or walkway. See EXQUISITE views of Cinderella Castle and catch Magic Kingdom’s fireworks show, as well as the Electric Water Pageant. It is classified as a Deluxe Resorts and also offers DVC Villas and Bungalows.

NEW! Moana-Themed Rooms

With the re-opening of the resort on July 19, Disney unveiled their new Moana-themed rooms!! And they are SO cute! The details are subtle and tasteful, which fits into the Deluxe theme of the resort. These rooms sleep 5, featuring 2 queen beds and 1 pull-out daybed. You can reserve a Standard room (which just means you’re not particular and, for a discounted rate, you might just end up with a theme park view room by luck of the draw!), Theme Park view, lagoon view, or pool or marina view room. You can also book Club-Level rooms, that include a Club Lounge that offers food and drinks and a private concierge staff to provide a higher-level of service for a much higher price.

Dining Options

There are 2 table service restaurants available at Disney’s Polynesian Resort: ‘Ohana and Kona Cafe. They are both located on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House. I have already written about both restaurants so read about them here:

Capt Cooks is a quick service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can also get some grab and go items here, and mobile ordering is available.

Pop up to Kona Island, near the monorail, for coffee and pastries in the morning and a selection of sushi and mini desserts throughout the rest of the day.

Disney's Polynesian Resort

If you’re after a Dole Whip (with or without rum), then you need to head down to Pineapple Lanai! The Poly also has 5 bars/lounges, and they’re all unique and spectacular!

The Poly also has 5 bars/lounges, and they’re all unique and spectacular! If you are up for the Monorail Bar Crawl, you cannot fail by choosing any single one of these bars! Read more about the bar crawl here!

  1. Barefoot Pool Bar
  2. Oasis Bar and Grill
  3. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace
  4. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto
  5. Tambu Lounge

Finally, the Polynesian is home to the Spirit of Aloha Luau dinner show, but that is unfortunately still unavailable. If and when it comes back, I highly recommend it! It is great fun and definitely not something you see every day!

Recreation

There are two pools available to guests of the Polynesian. The Oasis Pool is just that: a quiet pool that is an Oasis. And then there is the Lava Pool.

Disney's Polynesian Resort

The Lava Pool has a volcano, a waterfall, zero-depth entry, and a 142-foot long waterslide. There is also a play area for kids under 48″. There are also Oasis Patios for rent, first come first served.

Close by, you’ll find the beach. While you can no longer swim in the lagoon, you can sit on the beach, even in a hammock, if that’s your style, and the beach is a GREAT place to watch the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom and catch the Electrical Water Pageant. You can also watch Movies Under the Stars, which is usually found at every resort, and can be a fun way for kids and kids-at-heart to unwind and relax after a long day in the parks.

Boat rentals and fishing are available from the nearby Marina, as well as volleyball and a jogging trail.

Shopping

BouTiki is one of my favorite shops in all of Walt Disney World. If Hawaiian Shirts are your thing, this is the place for you! Or head up to the Moana Mercantile on the second floor, where you’ll find toys, games, clothes, and snacks and drinks (including alcohol).

And there you have the Polynesian, in a nutshell. This is such a fabulous resorts and I am absolutely LOVING the Moana rooms! Have you stayed at the Poly? Contact me today to get started on your vacation!

Tahiti: Island Paradise

5 Things to Do in Tahiti: Island Paradise

If there was ever a place that embodies the beautiful duality of the French Polynesian archipelago, it’s Tahiti. The largest of the French Polynesia’s 118 Islands, Tahiti is often referred to as two separate islands, even though they are joined by a tiny land bridge. The larger, northern section is called Tahiti Nui, and it contains the capital city, Papeete. The smaller section is more secluded, called Tahiti Iti. Tahiti is an island paradise in the South Pacific, and is breathtakingly beautiful. Quiet beauty coupled with seclusion makes it the perfect place to visit when you need to destress, unwind, and unplug.

5 Places to See in Tahiti

Tahiti: Island Paradise - La Plage de Maui
1. La Plage de maui

This pearly, white sand beach, located on Tahiti’s Southern Shore, is known for its crystal clear waters and it’s white sand beach. A lot of beaches in the island paradise of Tahiti have volcanic black sand. This beach stands out!

The water is said to be perfectly clear, so you can easily see the bottom of the ocean! It’s truly an island paradise here! The snack bar here serves fresh fish and seafood, and is exceptionally popular with visitors and tourists!

2. fautaua waterfall
Tahiti: Island Paradise - Fautaua Waterfall

This gorgeous, natural wonder cascades into a large pool. It is quite a challenging hike to the falls, which is said to be part of the adventure, so it is highly suggested you take a tour with a large group. The falls can be difficult to find, so better safe than sorry!

3. papenoo beach
Papenoo Beach
Papeenoo Beach

This small village is located east of Papeete and offers a reminder of the island’s volcanic history. This beach is less crowded with tourists than La Plage de Maui, but it is known to attract the Island’s surfing community. It’s black sand beach reaches down into the crystal clear blue waters of the south pacific. It is close enough to Papeete that you can go into the city before or after, but, if you take a taxi, you’ll want to arrange pickup times in advance!

Capital City of Papeete
4. papeete, capital of tahiti and all of french Polynesia

Shopping, dining, nightlife, and sightseeing, OH MY! You’ll want to shop for black pearls and unique island crafts here.

Also worth a visit, head to the Municipal Market. This Market is full of fresh veggies, fruits, meat, fish, flowers, and goods like hats and souvenirs. Chinese, French, and Italian cuisine are the most popular at the local restaurants.

6. The island of moorea
Tahiti: Island Paradise - Moorea

Tahiti’s sister island of Moorea is much more rugged. The island features a jagged outcropping, called Magic Mountain, that is covered with lush, tropical foliage. This is popular for ATV tours and hiking tours. There are also various beaches, including Temal Beach on the north coast.

The Lagoonarium offers scuba diving and snorkeling. The Moorea Dolphin Center offers the chance to see many marine mammals.

When to Visit

Tahiti: Island Paradise

The best time to visit this island paradise is winter, between May and October. This is Tahiti’s Dry Season, which means lower humidity and less rain. The average temperatures range from the upper-60s to the mid-80s.
