There are few places I love more than this, so let’s visit Mexico at EPCOT!
I cannot imagine going to Walt Disney World and not going to EPCOT. And I CERTAINLY can’t go unless I get to visit Mexico! What pavilion is YOUR favorite?!
visit mexico – a pyramid
If you have never visited Mexico in EPCOT, you might have seen photos of the Mesoamerican pyramid that houses the exhibit. Although similar to their Egyptian counterparts, these pyramids feature flat tops and stairs up the sides. There’s already enough walking in Epcot! You won’t have to climb stairs to get inside, though, since the pyramid is raised. DO NOT CLIMB THE STAIRS ON THE PYRAMID. Just don’t be that guy!
Once inside, you will find shopping, dining, and a dark ride that showcases Mexican culture. This is one of my favorite pavilions. It is absolutely beautiful. You will enter the pavilion through an art gallery that features Mexican artwork called “Animales Fantasticos.”
You will then enter the Plaza de los Amigos, a Mexican plaza and village, set at twilight overlooking a lagoon. In the center of the lagoon, you will see another pyramid, complete with a volcano that is “erupting.” On the edge of the plaza is San Angel Inn Restaurante, a table service restaurant serving authentic Mexican cuisine.
gran fiesta tour
Across the way from the restaurant, you will find the ride Gran Fiesta Tour, one of three rides in the World Showcase. In the current iteration of this ride, you will travel past the Mayan pyramid and volcano (and past the restaurant) into a celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Start out with Panchito Pistoles and Jose Carioca, as they search for the third Caballero, Donald Duck! They have a concert to perform and need our help! The ride then progresses through Mexican scenes and animatronics until all Three Caballeros unite to perform. It is super cute, very relaxing, and one of my FAVORITE Disney rides! I highly recommend it. I could just visit Mexico just for the ride!
Visit Mexico for Tequila!
Next to San Angel, you will find La Cava del Tequila, a tequila bar with tequila (duh), specialty margaritas, and appetizers. Here you can also book La Cava Experience. This is a private tequila tasting with tequila connoisseurs, that you can only get in Tequila, Mexico. It is truly a one of a kind experience, only in Epcot! Sound like your kind of thing? You’ve looked at art work, you’ve gone on a relaxing boat ride, you’ve eaten, you’ve drank, you’ve heard some music. Now you shop til you drop! In the Plaza de los Amigos you will find authentic Mexican goodies like sombreros and ceramics and musical instruments like castanets and maracas. Outside of the Mexico pavilion, you can grab a quick service meal at La Hacienda de San Angel (available on mobile ordering) or grab a margarita at Choza de Margarita, an outdoor margarita bar that also serves appetizers.
