Are You Wanting a Disney Vacation for Fall Break but Worried About the Crowds? Try an October Cruise!

Look, I get it. October is my absolute FAVORITE time to head to Walt Disney World. But the week of Indigenous Peoples Day is WAY crowded! Like, we waited almost 2 hours for a bus to Saratoga Springs from Magic Kingdom crowded. Once again, that week is Fall Break for a ton of states. Usually, this leads to wall-to-wall people in the parks. So, why not consider an October Cruise instead?

Halloween on the High Seas

You may not get to go to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but Halloween on the High Seas is its own incredible event that you may even find better than the party!

Clarabelle Cow, Minnie Mouse, and Daisy Duck will don NEW costumes this season! Photo: Disney

I’m MOST excited for this! Check out this amazing new character meet-and-greet opportunity! Clarabelle Cow, Minnie Mouse, and Daisy Duck will be dressed up for the first time as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus! HOW COOL IS THIS?!?!?!

The centerpiece of every ship during Halloween sailings is the signature magical Pumpkin Tree towering over the atrium lobby, each with sprouting Jack-O-Lanterns and flickering lights.

But aboard the Disney Wish, guests will witness the debut of an all-new Pumpkin Tree in the “Cinderella”-inspired Grand Hall. This enchanted tree that grew perfect gourds with the help of a Wishing Star at night produced the perfect pumpkin that became the coach that carried Cinderella to the Prince’s Ball.

What’s Included in a Disney Cruise?

What’s Included?!

Disney Cruise Line is basically an all-inclusive on the sea. More activities, dining, and entertainment is included in the base price of your cruise than in any other cruise line. And this means you will have LESS to pay once on board. To start, almost all of the ship’s entertainment is available at no cost. This means Broadway-quality shows, movies, including first-run movie screenings, fireworks at sea, and your favorite Disney characters. But you will need to pay extra for premium experiences. Things like the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Pirates League, or the Royal Court Tea.

What about dining experiences? 24-hour room service, rotational dining in three unique dining rooms, unlimited soft serve ice cream, unlimited coffee, tea, and soda, and quick service bites throughout the ship are all included in the cruise price. You will only need to pay extra for Adult-exclusive dining, bottled water, alcohol, and specialty drinks.

Kids Clubs, including the Oceaneer Club/Oceaneer Lab, for children aged 3-12, Edge, for children aged 11-14, and Vibe, for teenagers aged 14-17, are all included, and supervised, for your kids to go off and enjoy a taste of freedom! Also, nightclubs, lounges, live music, adults-only pool and whirlpool, and the fitness center are all included for adults!

Disney’s Castaway Cay
October Cruise

Castaway Cay offers a family and adult-exclusive beach, all included. You will also enjoy access to beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas, too! And that’s not even mentioning your barbecue lunch, unlimited soft serve ice cream, coffee, tea, and soda! Also, free tram transportation from the ship to the beach.

Castaway Cay will also have live music, your favorite Disney characters, and kids and teens clubs. Again, this is all included in the price of your cruise. You do not have to pay for ANY of this. Maybe you’ll choose to enjoy the walking paths around the island, or take part in the Castaway Cay 5K and receive a finisher medal, or take an adult-exclusive yoga class.

Snorkel gear, floats, and rafts; book Port Adventures; or rent bicycles for additional fees. Bottled water, alcohol, and specialty drinks are also available for an additional cost.

Kids, Tweens, and Teens can make new friends in Disney’s kids clubs! For the smallest cruisers, they can explore the Oceaneer Club, where they can explore spaces inspired by Disney storytelling, like the Millennium Falcon! Tweens can hang out in Edge, full of video games, music, and movies. And for Teens, they can head to the parent-free Vibe, a lounge-style hang out spot with parties and karaoke and more!

You will not go hungry aboard the Disney Dream! Main dining, which is offered on a rotational basis, takes place in the Animator’s Palate, where you can be “drawn into” a dinner show, the Royal Palace, where you will dine like royalty, and the Enchanted Garden!

And there is casual dining available, too! Enjoy Cabanas, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; or take in Flo’s Cafe, for burgers, chicken, pizzas, and salads; or ice cream treats at Frozone or Eye Scream. You can even get 24-hour room service.

Transatlantic Cruise Basics

Transatlantic Cruise

Disney Cruise Line has some amazing itineraries available, and this 13-Night Transatlantic Cruise from Miami to Barcelona definitely fits the bill! You will embark on the Disney Magic on May 8, 2022, in Miami, Florida. From there, you will sail across the Atlantic, eventually ending up in Barcelona, Spain. This cruise has 7 days at sea and 7 destinations.

Port of Miami

Transatlantic Cruise starting in Miami
Photo: Disney

This is the most important part of cruising: don’t miss the boat. You will want to be there a day in advance AT LEAST, so find a nice hotel in Miami, and get settled in. I suggest the Four Seasons Miami. Then take in the sights, like Miami Beach, or shopping, or dine in a Cuban Cafe. Then, on the day of your cruise, you can relax while you prepare to go to Port! Sure, the cruise won’t leave until 4:00, but why risk a flight delay the day of? Just trust me, and fly in the day before!

Transatlantic Cruise Days at Sea: the Disney Magic

Disney Magic
Photo: Disney

The first 6 days of this cruise will be spent at sea, so you will have a ton of time to relax and enjoy your ship. You will be sailing on the Disney Magic, so get to know the ship! For me, I’m only here for the food, so starting with dining is important to me! Aboard the Magic, you can dine at Animator’s Palete, Lumiere’s, or Rapunzel’s Royal Table as part of Disney Cruise Line’s Rotational Dining. There is also 24-hour Room Service, Duck-In Diner, Eye Scream Treats, and much more, and this is all included in the cost of your cruise. For an extra, adult’s only treat, make reservations at Palo.

You will be able to take in Tangled: The Musical, first-run movies (when applicable), and more, plus deck parties, kids’ clubs and adult-exclusive activities, pools, Senses Spa, and so much more! Read more about the amazing Disney Magic!!

Ponta Delgada, Portugal

Transatlantic Cruise Ponta Delgada, Portugal

On Day 8, you will get to explore Ponta Delgada, Portugal, taking in it’s green fields, volcanic mountains, and blue lagoons! Located on Sao Miguel Island, enjoy culture and cuisine.

Known for its grand religious celebrations and local delicacies, you can see liqueur-makers and explore the pineapple plantation Arruda Alores. Or see the convent and chapel of Nonna Senhorada de Esperanca. Read about the Port Adventures available!

Lisbon, Portugal

Following another day at sea, you’ll cruise into the capital city of Portugal, Lisbon. You can explore the city on foot, ride a funicular tram, shop, or sight-see.

Transatlantic Cruise Lisbon, Portugal

Visit the Castle of Saint George, thought to be the first colony of the Phoenicians. And then you can take your knowledge from Spaceship Earth and THANK THE PHOENICIANS!

See Moorish and Roman Architecture from the Middle Ages at Alfama, or visit the Lisbon Cathedral from the 12th Century. Interested in Vasco de Gama? While in Lisbon, visit Balem, the ancient city where he set sail in search of the New World! Read more about available Port Adventures in Lisbon!

Cadiz, Spain

Flanked by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea in the Andalucía region of Spain, this city is known for its overabundance of seafood! It is also the world’s major sherry and brandy producers.

Here, you can go shopping in the Plaza San Juan de Dios, visit the Catedral de Cadiz, or see the 2nd largest discovered Roman Theater, Teatro Romano, thought to be from around 100 BC. Read more about Port Adventures in Cadiz!

Malaga, Spain

One of the oldest ports in the Mediterranean, Malaga, Spain, will be your next spot. Explore the Mercado Central, a market for fresh fish and produce. Or enjoy the Alameda Principal, a beautiful seaside park.

Transatlantic Cruise Malaga, Spain
Photo: Disney

Founded by the Phoenicians in 770 BC, Malaga has been ruled by the Romans, Visigoths, and the Moors. You can see the Historic Quarter, tour the Palace-Fortresses Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, the Picasso Museum, and even the Malaga Bullring! Discover all the available Port Adventures in Malaga!

Cartagena, Spain

Transatlantic Cruise Catagena, Spain

Founded in 3rd Century, BC, this city is the gateway to many of Spain’s most valued cultural and historical sites. You can see ancient ruins from Carthaginian, Roman, Byzantine, and Moorish Civilizations.

You can visit a Roman theater, Castillo de Conception, Murcia, Cala Cortina Beach, shopping, and much more!

Barcelona, Spain

Finally, you will debark in Barcelona, Spain. You can continue on in Europe, maybe on another Disney Cruise or an amazing Adventures by Disney vacation even, or travel back home. Whatever you choose, don’t forget to enjoy what Barcelona has to offer! Among its many qualities, Barcelona has incredible culinary delights, leading fashion designers, numerous museums and art galleries, expansive parks and beaches, a convenient subway system and last, but not least, amazing architecture—from Medieval to Modernism. Stay in the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel, and take advantage of these amazing Port Adventures!

Transatlantic Cruise Sample and Booking information

So what’s it gonna cost you? That depends on what type of stateroom you’re interested and the number of people in your party, but for a family of 4, 2 adults, 2 kids, in a Guaranteed Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, this amazing cruise will run about $12,000. Ready to book?

Kids will become Creature Handlers, and they will learn to care for exotic species from around the galaxy, including porgs, loth cats, worrts, and more! They will get an augmented reality datapad to use during the cruise, and that will enable them to track and care for their creature. And they will be joining a special adventure to deliver two stowaways to Rey, Chewbacca, and the Resistance. During the interactive “Star Wars: Creature Challenge” experience, the newly minted caretakers will be put to the test as they help feed the lifelike creatures and encounter some of the most dangerous beings in the galaxy. When things go awry, they’ll need to call on the expertise of Rey and Chewbacca —and even channel the Force —to secure the ship from destruction.

Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck is a nautical playground inspired by the colors, icons and magic of Disney Cruise Line, for the littlest cruisers. This brand-new space will be filled with an array of maritime-themed physical and sensory-style games and activities, such as pipe slides and crawl-throughs, ship’s wheels, “busy boxes” fashioned as ship controls and cushy life preserver seating areas.

At select times throughout the voyage, the space will be open to little ones’ families for group play, and the toddlers from It’s a Small World Nursery will also get dedicated access to the club to explore, learn and play with Mickey and Minnie.

The signature experience will be “Minnie’s Captain Academy,” a high-energy training session for kids to exercise their bodies (through playful games, dancing and maritime “drills”) and their minds, testing their imagination and ingenuity during a series of challenges tied to STEAM principles (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). Captain Minnie will inspect their progress and officially declare them honorary captains!

Disney Wish will have NEW Spaces for Teens and Tweens

At Edge, tweens ages 11 to 14 will have fun, make friends and play games in a bright, colorful hangout inspired by a chic New York City loft. The club will include cozy furnishings, comfortable niches for solo gaming and movie watching, and a soda bar.

One of our favorite details is the indoor solarium area, which will feature a sunny overhead skylight effect, carpet patterned with fresh grass and daisies, a back wall mural of a bright blue sky, and games inspired by a colorful outdoor city park.

Throughout Edge, graphic art displays known as “photo walls” will provide ample opportunities for tweens to capture cool, shareable vacation pics that will surely be the envy of their friends back home.

At Vibe, teens ages 14 to 17 will meet new friends, watch movies, play games and participate in entertaining activities created just for them. Inspired by a Parisian artists’ loft, this stylish space will feature classic architectural elements like regal French columns and paneled walls covered with whimsical pop art murals and colorful graffiti, as well as a traditional French Morris column plastered with Disney-inspired travel posters.

The décor will feature an electric retro twist, with vibrant neon signs and funky pop art throughout, accentuated by a larger-than-life, brightly painted Mickey Mouse statue. Combine all of that with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, and every angle in Vibe will offer a selfie-worthy backdrop for the trendiest teens on the high seas.

For the first time on a Disney ship, the Disney Wish will feature a third retreat for tweens and teens: The Hideaway. This hip new hangout will offer older kids and young adults another place to relax, sip a smoothie, listen to music and more in a posh setting complete with a dance floor and DJ booth – perfect for karaoke contests and dance competitions.

The Hideaway will be adorned in a vibrant color palette, retro-inspired design details, a stylized “Hiya, pal” mural and disco ball lights. Adjacent to Vibe, this flexible venue can be opened to the teen club, closed off for tween activities and even reserved especially for guests ages 18 to 20.

Via Disney: ” With nearly 2,000 square feet of living space, including a spacious upper-level loft, the Wish Tower Suite will sleep up to eight guests with two main bedrooms, a children’s room, a library that converts to a bedroom, and four-and-a-half bathrooms.
